Former world champion boxer Ricky Hatton has died aged 46, the Press Association has confirmed.
Hatton, a Manchester-born fighter, enjoyed a celebrated career between 1997 and 2012, winning titles in both the light welterweight and welterweight divisions. Known for his aggressive style and relentless energy in the ring, he became one of Britain’s most popular boxing figures.
Earlier this year, Hatton announced he would come out of retirement for a December bout in Dubai, 13 years after his last professional fight. He was scheduled to face Eisa Al Dah on 2 December.
In 2023, Sky aired a documentary highlighting Hatton’s career, personal struggles, and ongoing battles with mental health.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed on Sunday that officers had been called to Bowlacre Road in Hyde, Tameside, at 6.45am, where they found Hatton’s body. Authorities said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
