A cyberCyber Attack on DBS Checker Exposes Personal Data in Channel Islands attack on a UK-based company that facilitates Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks has led to a data breach, reportedly exposing the personal details of some residents in the Channel Islands.
Guernsey’s independent Data Protection Authority (ODPA) confirmed it is engaging with Access Personal Checking Services Ltd (APCS) after several Bailiwick residents reported concerns.
The breach is said to have compromised sensitive contact and identity details, including passport numbers, driving license information, and national insurance records.
The ODPA stated that based on the information shared by APCS, “the impact on Guernsey residents may be limited.” However, the authority stressed that investigations are ongoing to fully assess the scope of the breach.
Meanwhile, Jersey’s Information Commissioner, Paul Vane, confirmed his office was “aware of the incident” but declined to comment further.
The ODPA has also issued advice to islanders on protecting personal information, urging residents to change passwords regularly, monitor for unusual credit activity, and remain alert to warning signs such as unexpected credit inquiries or security alerts.
The incident raises fresh concerns over the protection of personal data in the Channel Islands and highlights the growing risks of cyber attacks targeting companies that handle sensitive information.
