Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly planning a new Netflix documentary about Princess Diana, timed for the 30th anniversary of her death in 2027.
The Sussexes have recently renewed their lucrative deal with Netflix, sparking speculation over new projects, including a second season of Meghan’s lifestyle series *With Love, Meghan* and other exclusive specials.
According to reports, Prince Harry is hoping to produce a Diana-focused documentary as part of their upcoming Netflix slate. Harry has already worked on documentaries about his late mother, including *Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy* in 2017, which also featured Prince William. However, it remains unclear whether William would participate in the proposed 2027 production.
Harry and Meghan’s previous Netflix series *Harry & Meghan*, released in 2022, became one of the platform’s biggest hits. Yet, not all reception was positive. Critics, including Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell, accused Harry of exploiting his mother’s legacy. Speaking on ITV’s *Lorraine*,
Burrell warned that airing private images could deepen the rift between Harry and William. He also criticised comparisons between Meghan and Diana, calling them “misplaced” and highlighting the unique struggles Diana faced.
Burrell added that the Sussexes could have thrived within the royal family, benefiting from security, royal protection, and a central role in public life. Instead, their decision to step back has been accompanied by controversies linked to their media deals.
Prince Harry’s ongoing collaboration with Netflix has also drawn scrutiny in other areas. His charity Sentebale reportedly lost access to a fundraising venue after Harry allegedly insisted on bringing a Netflix crew to film during a polo tournament in Miami. According to charity chair Dr Sophie Chandauka, this move shifted the event from a charitable occasion to a commercial venture, costing them a significant discount offered by a generous family.
A source close to the former trustees has dismissed the claims as “completely baseless,” but the row has reignited debate over Harry’s relationship with Netflix and the impact of commercial partnerships on his charitable work.
With the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death approaching, speculation continues over whether the new documentary will move forward and how it will affect Harry’s strained relationship with the royal family—particularly his brother, Prince William.
