The UK government announced on Friday that it has temporarily withdrawn its diplomatic staff from the British Embassy in Iran due to the deteriorating security situation in the region.
According to an update posted on the Foreign Office’s official travel advice page for Iran, the UK stated: “We have taken the precautionary measure to temporarily withdraw UK staff from Iran. Our embassy continues to operate remotely.”
The move comes amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, following a series of military escalations. Last week, Israel launched strikes on Iranian targets, prompting Iran to retaliate with multiple missile attacks. The conflict has significantly increased regional instability, leading several countries to reassess the safety of their diplomatic missions in Tehran.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the crisis. On Friday, he travelled to Geneva for high-level talks with Iranian and European officials, focusing on nuclear diplomacy and conflict resolution. Lammy has repeatedly urged both Israel and Iran to pursue dialogue and avoid further military confrontation.
The UK Foreign Office continues to advise against all travel to Iran, citing security risks linked to the ongoing hostilities and the volatile regional climate.
