Real Madrid star forward Kylian Mbappé has been admitted to the hospital with a severe case of gastroenteritis, ruling him out of upcoming fixtures at the FIFA Club World Cup.
The 26-year-old France captain was absent from training on Tuesday due to a fever and missed Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal.
In an official statement released on Thursday, Real Madrid confirmed Mbappé is undergoing medical tests after being diagnosed with an acute gastrointestinal infection, commonly known to cause vomiting and diarrhoea.
Mbappé is now doubtful for Real Madrid’s next fixture against Mexican side Pachuca, scheduled for Sunday at 20:00 BST.
His availability for the final group stage match against RB Salzburg on 26 June remains uncertain and will depend on how he responds to treatment over the coming days.
The prolific forward has enjoyed an impressive debut season at the Santiago Bernabéu, scoring 43 goals in 56 appearances across all competitions following his high-profile free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
This tournament marks Real Madrid’s first campaign under new manager Xabi Alonso, who succeeded Carlo Ancelotti after the La Liga season.
Under Alonso’s leadership, the Spanish giants have already secured silverware this season, lifting both the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
