Staff at the University of Edinburgh have raised alarm over proposals that could see up to 1,750 jobs slashed, as the institution grapples with a deepening financial crisis.
The University and College Union (UCU), which has launched a strike ballot in response, has criticised university leadership for what it describes as “poor decision-making and overly ambitious capital projects,” accusing senior management of saddling the university with unsustainable long-term costs.
The union argues that reckless spending priorities are to blame for the looming crisis, not frontline staff — and is now mobilising to defend jobs and hold university executives to account.
