A second man has been arrested as police continue to investigate a series of arson attacks on properties associated with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in north London.
The 26-year-old suspect was detained at London Luton Airport on Saturday. He is being held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life and remains in police custody in London.
The arrest is linked to three separate incidents: a vehicle fire in Kentish Town, a blaze at Sir Keir’s current private residence on the same street, and a third fire at a former address in north-west London.
The Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command is leading the investigation due to the involvement of a high-profile political figure.
Earlier in the week, 21-year-old Roman Lavrynovych was charged with three counts of arson with intent to endanger life. He appeared in court on Friday but did not enter any pleas. The BBC reports he works as a builder and roofer.
Emergency services were first called in the early hours of Monday to Sir Keir Starmer’s Kentish Town property, which he owns and is currently letting. The London Fire Brigade responded to a blaze at around 01:35 BST, with damage sustained at the front entrance. No injuries were reported.
Just days earlier, on 8 May, a vehicle that Sir Keir had sold to a neighbour in 2024 was set alight on the same street.
A third fire was reported on Sunday morning at a converted house in Islington, where Sir Keir previously resided. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus led one person to safety via an internal staircase.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are appealing for any further information related to the incidents.
