A fire broke out in a northbound tunnel near Waterloo Underground Station in London this morning, causing major disruption on the Northern Line.
London Fire Brigade (LFB) and emergency crews rushed to the scene following reports of an overheating ceramic track support in the Kennington Tunnels on York Road, South East London, at 7:37 AM.
Firefighters acted swiftly to contain the fire, and no injuries were reported. As a precaution, sections of the northbound tunnel were closed, and passengers were evacuated from the station.
The Northern Line remains suspended between Charing Cross and Battersea Power Station, while Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that services are running normally on the rest of the line.
“Crews were called to a reports of a ceramic track support that had overheated at Kennington Underground Station on Kennington Park Road.
“The Brigade’s 999 Control officers received their first call at 0737 and deployed fire crews from Lambeth and Dowgate fire stations to the incident.
“Firefighters cooled the track support and the incident was over by 0924.”
