Harley Pearce, the 21-year-old son of former England defender Stuart Pearce, has tragically died following a tractor collision in the Cotswolds.
The fatal crash occurred on 16 October on the A417 at Old Birdlip Hill in Witcombe, near Gloucester. Gloucestershire Police confirmed that Harley, who lived in Marlborough, Wiltshire, died at the scene.
Harley was the younger of Stuart Pearce’s two children. His father, a celebrated football figure, earned 78 England caps during his playing career and briefly served as caretaker manager of the national team in 2012.
In a statement released by Gloucestershire Police, the Pearce family expressed their heartbreak: “Our family is truly shocked and utterly heartbroken at the loss of our cherished son and devoted brother, Harley. A soul who left an unforgettable imprint on all who knew him. He was a golden boy with an infectious smile, and this shocking tragedy will leave a huge hole in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.”
They described him as a young man of “quiet, understated strength and deep kindness,” adding that they were proud of his “wonderful work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit in the farming industry.”
Football clubs across the country, including several of Stuart Pearce’s former teams, paid tribute online. Nottingham Forest wrote on X that they were “deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Harley Pearce,” sending thoughts to Stuart and his family. West Ham United and Manchester City also expressed their condolences, offering support to the Pearce family at this tragic time.
Gloucestershire Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage related to the collision to come forward.
