Local councils and public sector organisations across the UK are set to benefit from a new £2.5 billion digital framework aimed at modernising infrastructure and accelerating innovation in government services.
Launched by NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS), the **Digital Workplace Solutions 2** framework will give local authorities and NHS bodies fast, compliant access to essential digital systems — including servers, networks, software, and end-user devices.
The initiative is designed to replace outdated legacy systems that currently limit efficiency and innovation within local government. It will also streamline procurement processes, improve interoperability, and strengthen cybersecurity across the public sector.
David Holbrook, Senior Category Manager at NHS SBS, said: “As we move into an era dominated by AI and Internet of Things (IoT), legacy systems simply don’t have the processing power or data handling capabilities to support them. Unsupported infrastructure doesn’t just hinder transformation, it introduces significant security risks.”
The Digital Workplace Solutions 2 framework is expected to support the rollout of next-generation technologies, allowing councils and health organisations to deliver more responsive, efficient, and connected public services.
By improving access to scalable and secure IT solutions, the framework aligns with the government’s long-term goal of digital transformation across public services, ensuring local authorities and NHS trusts are better equipped to meet growing citizen and patient needs.
