Amazon has announced a substantial pay rise for its UK workforce, delivering an above-inflation boost to tens of thousands of employees across the country.
From the end of this month, the tech giant will increase its minimum starting hourly wage by 5.9% to £14.30, or by 5.5% to £15.30, depending on location. As a result, annual salaries for frontline roles will now begin at £29,744 and could reach up to £31,824.
The pay rise will directly benefit employees working in Amazon’s fulfilment centres and frontline operations nationwide. Since 2022, the company’s minimum starting pay in the UK has risen by 43%, placing Amazon among the highest-paying employers in its sector.
The move comes as living costs continue to rise, with Amazon positioning the pay increase as a way of both supporting staff and recognising their contribution to the company’s daily operations and long-term growth.
John Boumphrey, Amazon’s UK country manager, said:
“Our UK frontline employees are essential to our success, which is why we’re proud to increase our minimum starting wage to £29,744 a year. Beyond this competitive wage, we offer industry-leading benefits from day one and meaningful career development opportunities for all our employees.”
The decision reflects a wider trend of major firms boosting wages in order to retain staff and attract new recruits in a competitive labour market.
Amazon has also highlighted that, in addition to higher wages, its employees benefit from comprehensive packages including healthcare, career development opportunities, and progression pathways.
The company’s investment is seen as both a vote of confidence in its UK operations and a commitment to supporting the workforce that keeps its logistics and delivery networks running smoothly.
