Labour MP Anna Dixon has revealed she has received death threats and online abuse after a video shared by Conservative MP Robbie Moore accused her of misleading constituents over her stance on a national inquiry into grooming gangs.
Dixon, who represents Shipley in West Yorkshire, said police are investigating the threats made against her. She blamed Moore, the MP for Keighley and Ilkley, for spreading “misinformation” that led to the abuse.
In a video posted on social media, Moore claimed Dixon had misled the public by dismissing calls for a grooming gangs inquiry, stating she had been against the proposal from the start.
Dixon Rejects Allegations
Dixon strongly denied Moore’s accusations, stressing that she voted against a Conservative amendment to the children’s wellbeing and schools bill in January 2025—not against an inquiry itself.
She explained that the amendment, attached to the grooming gangs inquiry proposal, would have undermined legislation designed to strengthen child protection safeguards. Dixon said she has always supported accountability, including in Bradford, if the national inquiry recommended it.
Accusations of Misrepresentation
The Labour MP accused Moore of selectively quoting from her emails to constituents and deliberately omitting her statement that she would back a Bradford-focused inquiry if required.
“It is irresponsible for any MP to spread blatant misinformation about a colleague, especially on such a serious issue,” Dixon said in her statement.
Moore Defends Video
Moore condemned the threats against Dixon but insisted his video raised “legitimate concerns” about her position.
He pointed out that 98 MPs from across six political parties, including Labour, had signed a letter to the Prime Minister urging a Bradford-focused inquiry into grooming gangs—while Dixon did not.
Moore argued that victims, survivors, and legal experts in Bradford were still calling for clarity, accusing local authorities of covering up abuse cases.
