A residential property in Newburgh, Aberdeenshire, caught fire on Sunday afternoon after being directly struck by lightning, prompting a rapid emergency response.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene on Main Street shortly after 3 pm, following reports that a lightning bolt had ignited the blaze during a thunderstorm.
Fire crews acted quickly to bring the situation under control, successfully extinguishing the flames. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
As a safety precaution, Police Scotland temporarily closed the A975 in both directions near Ellon while the fire was being dealt with. The route has since reopened to traffic.
The incident highlights the dangers posed by extreme weather conditions and lightning strikes in the UK, particularly during sudden summer storms.
