A 31-year-old Iranian national has been arrested in north-west London under the National Security Act 2023, as part of an ongoing counter-terrorism investigation led by the Metropolitan Police, the force confirmed on Friday.
The man was detained during a targeted operation in the morning, with officers conducting searches at two residential addresses in the area.
Linked Arrests Under National Security Legislation
His arrest follows the detention of three other Iranian men in London last Saturday, as part of the same investigation by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
The three men, aged 39, 44 and 55, remain in custody and can legally be held until Saturday, 17 May, pending further enquiries.
Police have clarified that this operation is unrelated to a separate counter-terrorism case that also unfolded last weekend.
Unconnected Plot Allegedly Targeted Israeli Embassy
In a separate investigation, four Iranian men were arrested at various locations across England on suspicion of preparing an act of terrorism. A fifth individual was arrested under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).
According to reports, the Israeli Embassy in London was the potential target in the suspected plot, though authorities have not officially confirmed this detail.
The Metropolitan Police continue to investigate both cases, with national security services maintaining heightened vigilance amid ongoing regional tensions.
