A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged after armed police were deployed to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital amid reports of a man entering the premises with a crossbow.
The alarm was raised on Friday morning when Police Scotland received reports that an individual had entered the hospital carrying the weapon. Specialist firearms officers were swiftly dispatched to the scene.
Authorities later confirmed that the weapon was not discharged and no one was injured during the incident.
The hospital’s main atrium was closed temporarily as a precaution, and traffic around the site was briefly diverted to allow emergency services to manage the situation.
Police Scotland confirmed on Saturday that the suspect had been formally charged and is expected to appear in court on Monday.
A spokesperson for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde stated that while there was a short disruption to access in certain parts of the hospital, there was no impact on clinical services, which continued to operate as normal.
