American R&B singer Chris Brown has been granted bail by Southwark Crown Court in London, allowing him to proceed with his scheduled world tour — including ten UK dates — despite facing a serious criminal charge.
Judge Tony Baumgartner ruled that the 36-year-old Grammy-winning artist could be released under strict conditions, including the posting of a £5 million security bond.
Brown was ordered to immediately pay £4 million, with the remaining £1 million due within a week. This financial guarantee is intended to ensure his return to court and may be forfeited should he breach his bail conditions.
Brown was arrested at approximately 2am on 15 May at the Lowry Hotel in Salford, Greater Manchester, after flying into the UK in preparation for his Breezy Bowl XX tour.
Initially denied bail on 16 May, he had remained in custody until Friday’s hearing.
The Breezy Bowl XX tour is scheduled to begin in Amsterdam on 8 June and includes performances in Manchester, London, Cardiff, Birmingham, and Glasgow. His first UK show is set to take place at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena on 15 June.
Brown faces a charge of grievous bodily harm under Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, relating to an incident alleged to have taken place in London on 19 February 2023.
Prosecutors claim that Brown assaulted music producer Abraham Diaw with a bottle, causing serious injuries.
At the time of the arrest, Adele Kelly, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London North, stated: “We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown, 36, with one count of grievous bodily harm. The alleged offence took place in London in February last year.”
The singer, previously known for his high-profile relationship with singer Rihanna, is required to comply with all bail terms and return to court as directed, or risk forfeiting the full security amount.
