The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has formally charged controversial influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate with more than 20 serious criminal offences, including rape, human trafficking, and controlling prostitution, involving three women in the UK.
According to The Telegraph, Andrew Tate, aged 38, faces 10 charges which include rape, actual bodily harm (ABH), human trafficking, and controlling prostitution for financial gain.
His younger brother, 36-year-old Tristan Tate, has been charged with 11 offences, including rape and ABH, relating to a single alleged victim who has also accused Andrew.
A spokesperson for the CPS confirmed: “We have authorised charges against Andrew and Tristan Tate for offences including rape, human trafficking, actual bodily harm, and controlling prostitution, in connection with three female victims.”
These charges were authorised following a submission of evidence by Bedfordshire Police.
In 2024, a European Arrest Warrant was issued in the UK, leading Romanian courts to approve the brothers’ extradition.
However, their return must wait until domestic legal matters in Romania—where they are also under investigation—are resolved.
The CPS has emphasised the importance of a fair trial, warning against any online commentary or media reporting that could prejudice the proceedings.
Romanian Investigation Ongoing
The Tate brothers are concurrently facing separate charges in Romania, where they are accused of rape, human trafficking, and involvement in an organised criminal group.
Both Andrew and Tristan have denied all allegations in the UK and Romania.
Romanian judges have previously indicated that the pair can be extradited to Britain once their current legal cases conclude.
Past Allegations and Legal Criticism
In addition to the current charges, Andrew Tate is facing a civil lawsuit brought by four other women. These women initially reported him to police in 2014, but the CPS declined to prosecute at the time.
Matt Jury, the solicitor representing these women, criticised the CPS’s earlier decision and called for further accountability:
“We welcome the CPS’s efforts to bring the Tate brothers to justice in the UK. However, we urge them to acknowledge their previous failure to prosecute and finally charge Andrew Tate for the rape and assault of our clients—women who were let down by the justice system more than a decade ago.”
Rise to Notoriety and Online Influence
Andrew Tate, a former kickboxing champion and self-described misogynist, first entered the public eye on Big Brother in 2016, but rose to international prominence in 2022 through viral TikTok videos.
He frequently promotes controversial views, including the belief that women should be subservient to men.
His content has drawn widespread criticism from educators and academics, who warn that his influence—along with other “manosphere” figures—has contributed to a rise in misogynistic attitudes among teenage boys in schools.
