The Mayor of the West Midlands, Richard Parker, has unveiled a new multi-million-pound business support package designed to accelerate economic growth, create jobs, and revitalise high streets across the region.
As part of the Mayor’s wider economic recovery plan, up to £15 million in direct grants will be made available to support business expansion and green investment. The scheme also includes thousands of hours of expert guidance through Business Growth West Midlands (BGWM), a service backed by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).
Since taking office last year, Mayor Parker has already channelled £10 million in funding to support thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across sectors such as manufacturing, digital technology, and retail. This funding has enabled businesses to grow their teams, expand premises, and invest in cutting-edge equipment.
One such business is A\&M EDM Ltd in Smethwick, which used a £62,000 grant to purchase advanced engineering machinery, helping them scale operations and meet growing demand.
The expanded package is set to build on these early successes, providing SMEs with tailored advice to help them win new contracts, explore overseas markets, boost turnover, and attract investment. BGWM will work directly with local firms to identify opportunities for digital innovation, supply chain diversification, and funding access.
Mayor Parker emphasised the importance of supporting the region’s business community, calling it the engine of the local economy.
He noted that too many years of stagnation have left parts of the West Midlands behind and vowed to keep investing in practical, real-world solutions that help businesses grow and communities thrive.
This latest round of funding is intended to unlock new job opportunities, support career progression, and energise the local economy through a business-led approach to regeneration.
The Mayor’s office is committed to making the West Midlands a prime destination for business, employment, and innovation. By continuing to support local enterprises with funding and expert advice, the region aims to lead the way in sustainable economic development and job creation.
