Passengers are facing travel disruption as a major track upgrade causes a one-week closure of the railway line between Surrey and Berkshire, with no South Western Railway (SWR) services running between Staines and Windsor & Eton Riverside until Friday.
The planned closure is part of a significant infrastructure upgrade by Network Rail, including the replacement of 800 yards of track on the historic Black Potts Railway Bridge, which crosses the River Thames.
Alternative Transport in Place During Closure
Throughout the closure, rail replacement buses will operate to serve affected routes. The temporary suspension of services means there will be no train service at Wraysbury, Sunnymeads, Datchet, and Windsor & Eton Riverside stations.
Trains that typically run between London Waterloo and Windsor & Eton Riverside will now terminate at Staines until the work is completed.
Weekend Disruption Expands to Hounslow and Ascot/Woking
In addition to the weekday closure, further disruption is expected over the weekend. On Saturday, no SWR services will run between Hounslow and Virginia Water. On Sunday, additional engineering work will affect routes between Hounslow and Ascot/Woking.
Network Rail has confirmed that the upgrade involves removing aging rails and sleepers and installing new track sections to ensure smoother, more reliable train services.
Journey Planning Support Available
SWR is encouraging passengers to plan ahead and use the journey planner available on its website to stay updated on alternative travel arrangements.
