Holidaymakers traveling to London Stansted Airport via train are set to face significant travel disruptions due to planned rail maintenance.
Engineering work on the Stansted Express service between the airport and London Liverpool Street will take place over five consecutive weekends, starting this Saturday and concluding on 23 March. The disruptions are due to essential track upgrades between Stansted and Broxbourne, Hertfordshire.
Rail Replacement Buses to Operate During Closures
Passengers will need to rely on nearly 200 daily rail replacement buses to complete their journeys, according to National Express. Greater Anglia has confirmed that no direct Stansted to London trains will be available on the affected dates: 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, and 23 March.
A shuttle bus service will operate between Broxbourne and Stansted Airport while the Stansted Express terminates at Broxbourne.
National Express director John Boughton acknowledged the inconvenience caused to travelers. “We recognise the significant impact and disruption the upcoming rail maintenance will have,” he said.
Extra Coach Services Added to Ease Passenger Travel
In response to the rail disruption, National Express has announced it will provide an additional 25,000 seats on its services between London and Stansted Airport to help passengers reach their destinations.
Passengers can utilize the following National Express services:
* A6 – 44 daily journeys serving Marble Arch, Paddington, Baker Street, St John’s Wood, Finchley Road, and Golders Green.
* A7 – 49 daily journeys serving London Victoria Coach Station, Victoria Rail Station, Waterloo, Southwark, Whitechapel, Mile End, and Bow.
* A8 – 49 daily journeys serving Kings Cross St Pancras, Farringdon, Barbican, Tottenham Hale, Liverpool Street, and Shoreditch.
* A9 – 48 daily journeys between London Stratford and London Stansted Airport.
Passengers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra travel time during these periods of disruption.
