A two-year-old boy tragically lost his life, and four adults were injured in a hit-and-run crash involving a stolen Porsche Cayenne in Smethwick, West Midlands. The fatal collision occurred on Dartmouth Road just before 11:00 PM GMT on Saturday, leaving a community in shock.
The crash involved a grey Porsche Cayenne—stolen earlier in December—and a Toyota Auris. The driver of the Porsche fled the scene, prompting a police appeal.
Among the injured are a 29-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, both in serious condition, and two other adults, both aged 30, who remain in stable condition. All five victims, including the child, were in the Toyota at the time of the crash.
Investigation Underway
Police believe the Porsche was speeding away from the roundabout on Kenrick Way when it collided with the Toyota. The road was temporarily closed while specialist collision investigators examined the scene but has since reopened.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, made a direct appeal to the fleeing driver:
“I urge the driver of the Porsche to do the right thing and come forward. They made the wrong decision to run away, but I’m asking them now to make the right one.”
Concerns Over Speeding in Smethwick
The incident has reignited concerns over speeding in the area. Local MP Sarah Coombes recently raised the issue in Parliament, highlighting that residents fear Friday and Saturday nights due to reckless driving on Kenrick Way.
This tragic incident underscores the dangers posed by stolen vehicles and high-speed driving in residential areas, adding urgency to calls for stricter enforcement and safety measures.
